Sunny Side Sandwiches
Sunny Side Sandwiches has carved out a cult following, and for good reason. What began as a small Windsor spot has grown into a local favourite, with a second outpost tucked away in Paddington – with a third store opening soon in East Brisbane – and an ever-growing reputation among sandwich lovers. I’ve put together a review of my recent to their Windsor site.

At its core, Sunny Side is all about quality – serving up freshly made sandwiches on soft, housemade shokupan bread. The true star of their menu is the breakfast sandwich and it’s not just bacon and egg slapped between two pieces of bread. It’s soft scrambled eggs with herbs’, paired ‘egg magic’ seasoning, crispy bacon, kimchi mayo, caramelised onions; toasted and dusted with their house made seasoning. This sandwich, chefs kiss and while I like my bread extra toasty than they do it, the combination of flavours are beautiful and it’s why I keep coming back.
While their menu is small, it’s mighty. It includes a reuben, chicken schnitty and a vegetarian option. My other go to is their spicy chicken schnitty, without pickles despite my love of cucumbers. Their schnitty sandwiches have panko crumbed chicken, lettuce and herby mayo for the plain schnitty and epic sauce for the spicy with their shokupan bread. As much as I want to absolutely love this sandwich, I find that the chicken itself lacks a little bit of flavour. However, the size of the chicken in the sandwich is huge, the panko is crunchy, and the sauce helps bring everything together for a decent sandwich.
Sometimes they do a monthly special – in April 2026 was their fish and chip sandwich and it’s something my partner overall enjoyed. He’s not much of a fish connoisseur so he’ll eat any crumbed fish and tell me it tastes good. He was indifferent to the addition of chips in the sandwich and felt that while the tartare sauce was good, there was too much that overpowered everything, which isn’t too much of a problem; it would’ve come down to the whoever was assembling it on the day. As a whole, he liked it and appreciated the addition of a lemon wedge.
Everything is made to order so you can count on a fresh sandwich. If you love a good sandwich, check out Sunny Side, you definitely won’t leave hungry! Overall, I enjoy the food and will definetely return.
